DISCUSSION IS HEALTHY

DISCUSSION IS HEALTHY

When two people agree on everything, one of them is doing all the thinking.

MAKE TIME FOR PLANNING

Planning moves things from where they are now to where you want them to be in the future. It translates intention into action. Schedule at least a half-hour each day or a half-day each week to plan your future actions.

DEADLINES IMPROVE PRODUCTIVITY

Set a time limit on all tasks and activities to ensure that the amount of time expended reflects the value of the task.

DETERMINE YOUR PRIME TIME

Use your time when you are most mentally alert and creative to work on challenging and important tasks. To determine the prime hours of your biological clock, Phyllis Kaufman and Arnold Corrigan, authors of How to Use Your Time Wisely, suggest you try a difficult task, such as a crossword puzzle, at different times of the day. Your prime time will coincide with the time you found the task the easiest.

DECISION-MAKING A DEVICE

Always make short-term decisions with long-range objectives in mind. Don't make a 'band-aid" decision which solves the immediate problem but results in time-consuming problems down the road.

POWER OF GOALS

Stephen Stresser, author of the book, Working it Out, claimed studies show that goal-setting programs can increase performance by 16 percent. This increases to 40 percent when tied with monetary rewards.

GOALS REQUIRE COMMITMENT

Keith De Green, in his book Creating a Success Environment: "People often break down into two categories - those who set their goals with such overwhelming desire and commitment that they cannot help but succeed - and those that set their goals with so little desire and commitment that they cannot help but fail."
