MAKING AN IMPACT

MAKING AN IMPACT

When presenting a proposal or communicating an idea, consider that we retain:

10 percent of what we read
20 percent of what we hear
30 percent of what we see
50 percent of what we hear and see
70 percent of what we say
90 percent of what we do.

E-MAIL PRECAUTION

If you have ever sent an e-mail only to notice typos, or have forgotten the attachment, or have sent it inadvertently before it was finished, get in the habit of addressing it last. Add the attachment first, message second and address last. If it's a reply, cut the address and paste it back when you are ready to send it.

DECIDE ON YOUR PERSONAL POLICIES

Policies help us make decisions quickly and prevent us from saying yes without thinking. Such policies as "I will not take on more volunteer activities without first giving up something" or "At no time will I compromise my ethics to gain a client" or "Decisions affecting my family will be discussed first with my family" force you to think about possible situations ahead of time and prevent the stress of conflict.

PLANNING FOR 2005

Don't put off buying next year's planner. Now is the time to block off those major activities, events, trips, and conventions etc. before other people's priorities consume the time.

SIMPLIFY YOUR LIFE

Paul Borthwick (101 Ways to Simplify Your Life, Victor Books, 1992) feels that advertising has a big influence on our accumulation of unnecessary items. We're bombarded by radio, TV, billboards, bulk mail, magazine and newspaper ads, creating either a sense of need or dissatisfaction with what we already have. He claimed that response to the media is one of the major sources of stress and clutter in our lives.
